This policy explains what personal information MotorSuds collects, why, and your rights over it. MotorSuds is run by James Jones as a sole trader, who is the “data controller” responsible for your information.
If you book as a customer: your name, mobile number, email (if you give one), the address and postcode where the car will be (for mobile jobs), your approximate location if you use “find detailers near me”, your vehicle details (make, model, colour, and registration unless you choose to withhold it), your booking details, and any messages you send through the app.
If you are a detailer: your name, email, phone, business details, base address, service area, working hours, photos, and payout details (your payout and any bank details are handled by Stripe — we never see or store them).
Payments: card payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not see or store your card number.
Technical: a device token so we can send you notifications, and basic diagnostic information to keep the app working.
To provide the service and connect you with a detailer, and to let you manage your booking — because it is necessary to perform our contract with you.
To send booking confirmations, reminders and cancellation notices by email, text and push notification — to perform our contract and for our legitimate interest in a reliable service.
To take payment through Stripe where a detailer offers online payment — to perform our contract.
To keep the service secure, verify phone numbers, and prevent fraud or misuse — for our legitimate interests.
To meet legal duties such as keeping accounting records — to comply with the law.
We use trusted companies to run parts of the service on our behalf: Supabase (secure database and hosting), Stripe (payments), Twilio (text messages and phone verification), Resend (sending email), Cloudflare (domain, email routing and security), Google Maps Platform (addresses, maps and directions), and Google Firebase (push notifications).
Your detailer receives the booking information they need to do the job — such as your name, contact number, the address and your vehicle details.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on providers that offer appropriate safeguards for your information.
We keep your information for as long as we need it to provide the service and to meet our legal duties. Booking and payment records are generally kept for around six years to satisfy UK tax and accounting rules. When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous.
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or provide it in a portable form. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these, email us at support@motorsuds.com and we will respond as soon as we can.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We will always try to resolve concerns with you first, and will acknowledge a complaint to us within 30 days.
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable service providers. No online service can be completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe.
MotorSuds is not intended for use by anyone under 18.
If we change this policy we will update it here and change the “last updated” date at the bottom. Please check back from time to time.
